Enjoy the Winter Break!
I want to wish everyone safe, relaxing, and enjoyable winter break. While I am as guilty as anyone when it comes to getting 'busy' with our own daily obligations, I hope that we will all find the time this winter break to spend some quality time with our friends and family.
But, when we come back to school on January 6, 2014, we will be incredibly busy. Next up for our students: a trip to California Adventure on January 19th, final exams for all students, Shrek pit orchestra rehearsals (Monday/Wednesday), and visit from the La Jolla Music Society and a guest violinist, and of course, all the music for second semester.
Disney Rehearsals and Trip
Our intermediate and advanced students will be traveling to Disney's California Adventure on January 19th. They will be performing in the park, and will then have the rest of the day to enjoy with their friends. To prepare for this event we will be holding three after school rehearsals. Rehearsals will run from 2:45 - 5:00 and will take place on the following three afternoons: January 10th (Friday), January 16th (Thursday), and January 17th (Friday).
We are rehearsing after school as our intermediate and advanced students do not meet together during the school day (obviously).
Final Exam Materials
Final exam materials are now available for all students. The document, which includes the materials for all of our string students, has been attached below.
Our Symphony Orchestra students will be preparing the same materials that will be asked for in the San Diego Unified School District Honor Orchestra auditions (which are held in early February here at Mira Mesa High School). Our Concert Orchestra students have their own material, or may also elect to prepare the 'Symphony' final.
One of the reasons we use the same materials as the honor orchestra is to encourage our students to participate. Any student who wishes to audition for the SDUSD Honor Orchestra must have a completed application and fill out the online Audition Request Form.

Free Recordings
All of the recordings from the concert are now online on our Musician's Only page. All of our string students have access to this page, and all recordings are available for download. I have embedded the two combined pieces (orchestra and choir) below.
