Thank you and CongratsFirst, congratulations to our student ensembles! Everyone performed very well and I heard many positive comments from parents and supporters. The orchestra program here at Mira Mesa is obviously growing quickly, and that alone makes me very hopeful for the future of the program. In addition, many of the elements from the concert were firsts for Mira Mesa (i.e. a full orchestra program, a selection from a concerto, an orchestral debut, etc). Thank you to everyone who came out and supported our students at our most recent concert. Your support is much appreciated and certainly is not taken for granted. I hope that everyone enjoyed themselves. Programs are available for download if you are interested. | | WARPED TOUR TICKETS We will be offering a chance to win two tickets to the upcoming June 27th Warped Tour Concert held at Cricket Wireless (Chula Vista). Chances to win the pair of tickets will be offered for a $1 donation (one chance), or 10 chances for a $5 donation. This is a great opportunity to (potentially) snag a pair of tickets to a great concert, while supporting a great cause! Final ExamsAs a reminder, we will begin preparation for Final Exam Proficiencies next week! Practice with drones to be prepared. :) |

As was the case with the Chicago Symphony concert, we will be providing these tickets free of charge to our students and chaperones. Mr. Mulvaney will be holding 5-6 tickets for chaperones (drivers) and will distribute the remaining tickets to our students. We will meet at Mira Mesa High School (in the orchestra room) at 6:30 on Friday and will carpool down at 7:00. Please do read about the orchestra and the evening's program on the La Jolla Music Society's website. Also, for those of you who are interested, here are links to scores and parts for two of the evening's selections: (1) Ludvig van Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D Major, Opus 61, and (2) Three Symphonic Poems from Bredrich Smetana's Ma Vlast - No. 1 The Might Fortress, No. 2 The Moldau, and No. 3 The Warrior Maid. The third piece on the program is more modern, and as such, is not available in the public domain. However, the composer, Thomas Ades, has a great website. Looking Ahead: - April 27th - Jazz Ensemble performs at a benefit concert for the Lost Children.
- April 29th - Mira Mesa Bands Spring Concert at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts.

And looking even further ahead, consider joining a youth orchestra. San Diego is lucky to have a number of very reputable ensembles, including the San Diego Youth Symphony (registration is already open and auditions are on June 11th), the San Diego Young Artists Symphony, and All About Music San Diego. Take a look at the websites and find a group that fits your needs - enhance your playing! Have a great week - Go Mira Mesa!
Spring BreakI trust that everyone is enjoying their break (and not thinking about school). Our students certainly have earned a break. The last seven weeks or so have been incredibly busy, as I am sure you have all noticed. Both Ms. Christensen, Mr. Kriley, and myself really appreciate the hard work everyone has put in to pull off any number of events recently (concerts, Phantom, festival, Disney, etc). A few photos from the March 29th trip to the SCSBOA Festival at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts are included below. Again, congratulations on a top notch debut! Once we come back from our brief respite, we will be back at it. Please use the calendar to stay up to date. String Orchestra students will notice they have no rehearsal (after school) the first Monday after break. :) Spring Donation CampaignThis is a tricky time of year for schools. Budgets are tight and remaining resources are very limited. Our orchestra program is doing our best to stay above the financial fray, but can only do so with your support. Please take a look at the attached letter and consider how you may be able to help support our students. Every donation, large or small, will help us as we continue to serve our students. And yes, all donations are tax-deductible. You can also choose to make a donation online using our secure server. Thank you for your support! | Sponsorship Letter (Spring).pdf | | File Size: | 152 kb | | File Type: | pdf | Download File
CongratulationsCongratulations to the Period 2 String Orchestra for their very fine performance yesterday at the SCSBOA Band & Orchestra Festival, which was held at the Poway center for the Performing Arts. This was the first time a Mira Mesa Orchestra has EVER attended this event at they certainly were fantastic representatives of our school and program. The orchestra earned a Superior rating for their performance, and also earned a Superior rating in the sight reading session. You should be proud of yourselves and of one another. Congratulations on a job well done! Disney TimelineThe timeline for the Disney trip (choir, musical theatre, & orchestra) is available at the following link location. The timeline has also been reattached below for everyone's convenience. Thank you for paying attention to the schedule. We have a lot of events going on and everyone needs to stay on top of their responsibilities while enjoying the trip! | Disney Timeline (2012).pdf | | File Size: | 120 kb | | File Type: | pdf | Download File
Astounding - A Look Into Mira Mesa Before even delving into this week's schedule I want to take a minute recognize how incredible it is to work alongside the Mira Mesa students, parents, fellow teachers, and community. I've never seen a school related programs provide the amount of quality educational opportunities and experiences listed below.
Our students, this school, and the programs are truly second to none. A brief look back at the past few weeks will reveal: amazing honor band and orchestra concerts at Copley Symphony Hall featuring over 40 Mira Mesa High School student-musicians, Mira Mesa's own Mrs. C being recognized (again) by the district for her exemplary teaching, a freshman saxophonist making the All-State band, the Chicago Symphony concert, a Wind Ensemble Superior festival performance at El Camino HS, six amazing Phantom of the Opera performances (plus two shows for feeder schools), a festival concert with Madrigals and Wind Ensemble, a weekend-long color guard competition (hosted by Mira Mesa at both our school and at the University of San Diego), a Composer's Festival with Samuel Hazo, an on site concert by Tchaikovsky International Music Competition winner Narek Hahknazaryan, and continued master classes for orchestra musicians with the best string players in San Diego.
