Welcome Back (2014)
I hope that everyone enjoyed their time off. As we return, the next few months (through Spring Break) are typically the busiest during the school year.
During this time period we will: travel to Disneyland's California Adventure, perform final exams for semester one, tackle the music for Shrek the Musical, audition and perform in the San Diego Unified School District Honor Orchestra, welcome a guest violinist to school, attend a concert featuring the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, compete in SCSBOA Music Festivals, and begin preparations for our Solo & Ensemble (NEW) and Spring Orchestra Concerts.

'Cars Land' at California Adventure
California Adventure
Our intermediate and advanced students will be performing at Disneyland's California Adventure on Sunday, January 19th. We will perform at their Hollywood Backstage Performance venue at 12:50 PM. Following the performance, our students will have the remainder of the park hours to enjoy themselves. The park closes at 10:00 PM and we are planning on staying to close. Parents, fear not - Monday is a Holiday.

Expect a detailed timeline to be available in school this week once bus schedules are finalized.
In order to learn FOUR new pieces in just 10 SCHOOL DAYS, and to learn to play together, we will be holding three after school rehearsals. The rehearsals will run from 2:45 PM - 5:00 PM and will take place on the following dates: Friday 1.10, Thursday 1.16, and Friday 1.17. It is very important that students attend these rehearsals given the limited rehearsal time and the fact that we will be performing as one LARGE orchestra.

Shrek the Musical
The first pit orchestra meeting for the musical will take place on Monday, January 6th. Regular pit rehearsals will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays throughout January. Others may be called as needed.
To those students performing in our pit orchestra - please prepare your parts individually! There is a lot of music, and we must have our student-musicians coming into rehearsal prepared.

Final Exam materials were posted over break. Do not wait to begin preparing the audition materials. Everything being asked of our students are skills we have worked on in class.
