There are a wide variety of opportunities available to our string-students this summer. A number of opportunities have been detailed below. Feel free to take a look and find one to your liking!
String Camp | Mira Mesa's Own
Mira Mesa will be holding our very own String Camp this summer! Our inaugural camp will run from August 18-22. Throughout the week, students will have the opportunity to take in unique course sessions, work in sectionals alongside string coaches, and perform as an ensemble.
Lunch will be provided Monday - Thursday, with a pot luck lunch to finish the week on Friday. I want to take the opportunity to invite everyone to join us for camp as we move towards the 2014-15 academic year.

String By the Sea, held at Point Loma Nazarene University, will be holding a bass workshop running from August 4-8.

Quartet Nouveau | Summer Concert Series
The talented musicians of Quartet Nouveau would like to invite our students to come on out and catch one of their concerts this summer. The quartet will be tackling two concert cycles.
Up first is the third portion of their concert series, Obsession. Works on the program for these concerts include Charles Ives' String Quartet No. 1 and Benjamin Britten's String Quartet No. 2.
Concert dates and locations include:
In addition to the third concert in the Obsession series, Quartet Nouveau will be participating in The Mendelssohn Project. This project celebrates the Mendelssohn Octet. Partnering with four additional musicians, Quartet Nouveau is thrilled to have the opportunity to bring this piece to San Diego.
Admission to all of these concerts is free, as the ensemble has been soliciting charitable donations to finance the concert series. The help fund the concert series or simply read more about the project, visit Quartet Nouveau's page dedicated to this concert series.

- July 18 - a 7:30 PM concert at the Encinitas Library, located at 540 Cornish Drive. Tickets are $15 and include a reception.
- July 19 - a 7:30 PM concert at the Christ Lutheran church, located at 4761 Cass Street. Admission is free.

San Diego State University is once again hosting their Summer Music Institute. This year the institute will run from July 6-12. For the first time there will be a string orchestra component!
Scholarships are available, especially for viola and bass students.

I wanted to check in with you and see if you had any string students that are interested in attending San Diego Summer Music Institute July 6-12 here at SDSU. This is the first year we'll be offering strings, and I'll be teaching viola as well as working with all the upper string students.
There are plenty of scholarships available, especially for viola and bass students.
