Looking ahead to March, here are the significant dates (outside of regularly scheduled rehearsals - which are also important):
- March 1st - Sunday, March 1st is the last day to go online and fill out the San Diego Unified School District Honor Orchestra Audition Request Form. All students who wish to be scheduled for an audition need to fill out this form before or by Sunday, March 1st.
- March 9th - Mr. Mulvaney off campus for a 10:30 AM clinic of the Scripps Ranch High School Orchestra.
- March 10th - SDUSD Honor Orchestra auditions at Serra High School. All students who wish to take part in the SDUSD Honor Orchestra must audition on this evening. Audition times will be assigned after the online form closes on March 1st.
- March 12th - Our 'Pre-Festival' Concert here at Mira Mesa High School. Given that we were short on seating last year, there will be two shorter concerts, each featuring both an orchestra and a band. The 5:30 PM concert will feature our Concert Orchestra and the Concert Band. The 7:00 PM concert will feature our String Orchestra and the Wind Ensemble. Tickets for each performance are $5 and proceeds are split evenly between both the band and orchestra programs.
- March 13th - Orchestra exchange will be held during second period and will include musicians from our Symphony Orchestra and the Syracuse High School Orchestra (Syracuse, Utah).
- March 17th and 18th - We will be hosting a two day music festival, sponsored by the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA). The 17th will feature orchestra ensembles and the 18th will feature band ensembles.
- March 21st - The Taste of Mira Mesa, which will be held at the University of California-San Diego. A string quartet has been requested to provide entertainment while guests are arriving. In addition, we are invited to provide themed baskets for the auction, with all of the proceeds from donated baskets going to our orchestra program.
- March 24th - The first rehearsal of the SDUSD Honor Orchestra (6:00 - 9:00 PM at Serra High School).
- March 26th - Our 'Seattle Send-Off' performance and parent/student meeting. There will be a 6:15 PM performance in the auditorium and a 7:00 PM meeting for all students and parents who are involved in the spring break trip to Seattle.
- March 29th - The London Symphony Orchestra will be performing at Symphony Hall. They will be led by San Francisco Symphony conductor Michael Tilson Thomas (MTT). We have secured 30 tickets to this event which we will provide to our students and families.
Of course, all dates may be found on our calendar.
