News & Notes
Only a month into the school year and we have already seen our string coaching program get off the ground, the conclusion of our first fundraiser (thank you to all who participated), nearly 90 individual string assessments over the span of two weeks, the election of our orchestra officers for the 2013 - 2014 year, a planning meeting with our main partner in education (the La Jolla Music Society), and the performance of each member of our Symphony Orchestra in small chamber ensembles.
And we are just getting started...

This Week on Reagan Road
The month of October is really when our year gets started. Taking a look ahead at this week:
- Monday String Coachings - Monday string coachings will continue this week for our Concert & Symphony Orchestra student-musicians. Parents, ask your students about their experiences (and who the are privileged to work with)!
- Symphony Orchestra Rehearsals - Our traditional Monday afternoon rehearsals will begin this week. The time for these rehearsals remains the same as it was last year, 4:30 - 6:30 PM.
- Hausmann Quartet - The Hausmann String Quartet will be on campus this Wednesday, October 9th, to perform for, and speak with, our Concert Orchestra students. In addition to being fine players, members of the Hausmann Quartet also serve as string faculty at San Diego State University's School of Music & Dance.
- Grades Close on Friday - 6-week marks will close on Friday, October 11th. Mr. Mulvaney will be off campus on Friday (at a conference), so be sure to have any missing materials/performance assessments in by Thursday in order to receive credit.
SDSU Orchestra Concert | Sunday October 13th
Members of the San Diego State University Orchestra, under the baton of new Director of Orchestras Michael Gerdes, will be putting on their first concert of the year this Sunday, October 13th at 4:30 PM.
(HINT: More with Mr. Gerdes later this year...)
The concert, titled "Songs of Innocence and Experience", will feature works by Samuel Barber and Franz Schubert. Performing with the SDSU Orchestra will be Sarah Skuster, principal oboe for the San Diego Symphony.
In addition, a number of Mira Mesa Orchestra alumni will be making their SDSU Orchestra 'debuts'.
General admission tickets are $15 and may be purchased either online or at the door. It will be a great show, and I know our alumni would love to see some current Marauders in the audience.
Feel free to RSVP on the Facebook Event page. See you there!
