A big thank you to the many students from our Symphony Orchestra (and some from our Concert Orchestra) who volunteered their time on Saturday to assist at the 21st Annual Mira Mesa Invitational Band Review and Field Tournament. The tournament coordinators consistently raved about our orchestra students, even wondering what 'incentive' we had to offer to elicit such fantastic efforts.
They were surprised to hear that we simply asked for help, politely. There was no 'secret' request. Good people do good deeds because they are in fact good people. It reminded me of this particular sequence from Kung Fu Panda:

Since this is a mid-week update, here your events and activities to keep an eye on for the next week and a half.
- Monday, November 11th - No School (Holiday)
- Tuesday, November 12th - Sectional day after school. As was discussed during class, I would be more than happy to hold our regular Symphony Orchestra Monday rehearsal on Tuesday, but out of respect for everyone's time I refrain from holding rehearsals without a significant amount of prior notice.
- Wednesday, November 13th - Our string coaches will be on campus to work with our students to make up for the Monday holiday.
- Friday, November 15th - SCSBOA Honor Applications are due! If you are interested in becoming Mira Mesa's first ever SCSBOA Honor Orchestra student, take a look at the audition materials and audition date.
- Monday, November 18th - Regular string coaching for our Concert & Symphony Orchestra students.
- Wednesday, November 20th - Boston Pops Concert at Symphony Hall under the baton of conductor Keith Lockhart. Some of our students will even have the opportunity to meet Mr. Lockhart again prior to the concert. Many thanks to the La Jolla Music Society for their continued partnership.
