Musical Opportunities
In the next two weeks there are a number of musical opportunities that are being offered to our Mira Mesa students. I am proud to offer these opportunities, and know that they will prove to be valuable experiences for our student-musicians, so please do take advantage of what is available!

The Lineup
  • Tuesday, Nov. 6th - The Hausmann Quartet made a visit to campus to perform for our third period Symphony Orchestra students. Take a look at the bio of this wonderful group.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 7th - San Diego Symphony bassist Sam Hager will be presenting a master class at San Diego State University from 5:00 - 7:00pm. The session is free, and is a great opportunity for aspiring bassists (or any musician, for that matter) to watch a professional work and provide instruction. The informational flyer has been attached below.
  • Saturday, November 12th - The lovely ladies from Quartet Nouveau will be presenting a string quartet concert featuring works by Schumann, Haydn, and Shostakovich.
  • Thursday, November 15th - A select group of students will travel to Copley Symphony Hall to watch the Philharmonia Orchestra under the direction of Esa-Pekka Salonen as they perform Mahler's 9th Symphony. The concert is at 8:00pm and we will meet here at school at 6:30pm in order to carpool. Take a look: Orchestra Bio, Program Notes, Conductor Bio.
  • Thursday, November 15th - The Passione String Quartet featuring two of our own string coaches are presenting a quartet concert featuring the works of Dvorak and Haydn. Here's the Facebook event invitation. If you're not headed to Copley that evening, head to Cuyamaca College for an evening of string quartets.

Please do try to take some time and take advantage of the tremendous musical opportunities that are available to our students here at Mira Mesa High School. Enjoy!

Odds and Ends
Students in Concert and Symphony Orchestra should be busy preparing video excerpts. There are two video excerpt assignments. The first is due on November 19th, and the second is due by or before December 2nd. Specific requirements have been posted in the orchestra room. Practice hard!
