For our students, helpful recordings and videos have been posted on the Musicians Only page. Now, here is the schedule of events for the week of April 16-20, 2012:
- Monday - String Orchestra Rehearsal, 4:00 - 6:00. This is our first (and last) strings only rehearsal before we are joined again by the winds and percussion (next week: chamber only).
- Tuesday - Jazz Ensemble, 2:30 - 4:30.
- Wednesday - Orchestra Council at lunch. Block scheduling also starts on Wednesday to accomodate testing (Block 1-3-5).
- Thursday - Jazz Ensemble, 2:30 - 4:30 (Block 2-4-6).
- Friday - Cleveland Orchestra Concert (field trip) at Copley Symphony Hall. (Block 1-3-5).
We have secured 30 tickets to the Cleveland Orchestra concert this Friday. As was the case with the Chicago Symphony concert, we will be providing these tickets free of charge to our students and chaperones. Mr. Mulvaney will be holding 5-6 tickets for chaperones (drivers) and will distribute the remaining tickets to our students.
We will meet at Mira Mesa High School (in the orchestra room) at 6:30 on Friday and will carpool down at 7:00. Please do read about the orchestra and the evening's program on the La Jolla Music Society's website. Also, for those of you who are interested, here are links to scores and parts for two of the evening's selections: (1) Ludvig van Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D Major, Opus 61, and (2) Three Symphonic Poems from Bredrich Smetana's Ma Vlast - No. 1 The Might Fortress, No. 2 The Moldau, and No. 3 The Warrior Maid. The third piece on the program is more modern, and as such, is not available in the public domain. However, the composer, Thomas Ades, has a great website.
Looking Ahead:
Have a great week - Go Mira Mesa!
