Regular Business
First, I was thrilled to see so may students stay on Friday afternoon for our Movie Day. Thanks to our Orchestra Council for putting it together. Next, I apologize for the long update - there's a lot happening this week.
Okay, here is the normal information you have come to expect:
Rehearse-a-Thon
Rehearsal on Friday will take place from 3:30 - 7:30pm. We will use this time to bring together both periods two and three to form one large string ensemble. There are two separate selections we will be working on (one string orchestra piece and one full orchestra piece). The rehearsal will begin with sectionals, proceed to a large unified rehearsal, followed by dinner, and then the reading of the full orchestra piece. Parents and supporters are welcome to join us. Dinner will be provided to all students during the event.
Sponsorship forms and letters were distributed on Friday to students. The greater the participation rate in fundraising events, the better off our orchestra program will be. All support helps. This is another opportunity for us to chip away at our operating expenses. We receive minimal school site or district financial support for our efforts. We are not even provided instruments. In fact, I'll be meeting a class of 30 new students on Monday with zero instruments. But, we'll make it work and we'll find a way... I havent' figured it all out yet, but I will... Eventually. :)
Obviously our fundraising efforts have been front loaded this year. We are trying to stay ahead of the game, particularly should there be unexpected twists (ex: a new section of orchestra opens up unexpectedly). In addition, we want to ensure that both the Concert Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra students retain access to their fabulous, and supremely gifted string coaches.

Okay, here is the normal information you have come to expect:
- SDSU Symphony Concert - On Sunday, 10/14, at 4:00 pm. They have a great program planned (ticket link).
- Dudley's Bread Fundraiser - Due on Tuesday, October 16th. Additional order forms are available as necessary.
- Monday Rehearsal - Regular Monday rehearsal will continue for our Symphony Orchestra students from 4:00 - 6:00 on Monday afternoon.
- Orchestra Leadership - Student leaders will meet during lunch on Monday, as usual.
- Challenger Band Concert - The Challenger Middle School Band will be performing alongside the Pomerado Community Band on Wednesday evening. The concert begins at 6:00pm on Wednesday evening. I know both Mr. Foster and the Challenger students would love to see some high school musicians there in support.
- Progress Reports - Six-week marks will be distributed to students on Thursday.
- Rehearse-a-Thon - Will take place on Friday, from 3:30 - 7:30 pm at school. More information is below.

Many Thanks
Thank you to those who have already assisted us in our "String It Up, Please!" campaign. For those considering helping out, please take not the Friends and Family promotion code ("INSPIRE") expires after October 16th.
Lastly, many thanks to the trio of "Band Dads" who volunteered their time and talents to put in our new stereo system (funded through a grant last year). The new system sounds great, and our students enjoyed the quality sound while relaxing on Friday afternoon during our Movie Day. In addition, they cut fresh shelves for our student music cabinet. Thank you!
