2nd Annual Mira Mesa Summer String Camp | August 17-21
Thank you to the musicians who have already registered for our 2nd Annual Mira Mesa Summer String Camp! We had approximately 40 musicians take part in last year's camp and I fully expect the turnout to be larger this year. Already musician registration is up 30% over last year at the same point in time!
With that being said, read up on our camp and register your student-musician! Pertinent information has been linked below for your convenience:
Again, camp masterclasses and coaches will be updated throughout the summer. To this point, we know Ms. MacAdam-Somer (Violin), Ms. Terbetski (Viola), and Ms. Yan (Cello) will be joining us. In addition, while all master classes are pending, one that has drawn significant student interest is that of 'audition preparation'. As was the case last year, master classes are based on student-musician input which is provided during online registration. FYI, I believe a few members of the San Diego Symphony might be stopping by throughout the week!
So, register online and we will see you in August!

San Diego Summer Music Institute | July 5-11
The San Diego Summer Music Institute will be held next week, July 5-11, on the campus of San Diego Sta te University. The camp, which offers both a band and orchestra component, is open to all of our Mira Mesa Orchestra musicians. SDSMI is hosted by the San Diego State University School of Music and Dance. You can read all about SDSMI on their website.
Not only is SDSMI open to Mira Mesa musicians, but they would love you all to consider attending. Currently they are offering some incredible scholarship/financial aid opportunities to our Mira Mesa string students.
We have access to over $800+ in assistance that we can offer for next week's camp. To my knowledge, this is in addition to other possible aid opportunities (honor orchestra, etc). Currently, I have available:
Simply put, if you are part of our orchestra program and are an experienced player, you could attend this camp for $99 next week. This is an incredible deal.
Please, email me if you would like to take advantage of this offer! All we have to do to capitalize on the available financial aid is let SDSMI know you plan on attending!

All-State Honor Orchestra & December CODA Orchestras
The California Orchestra Director's Association sponsors two major honor orchestra opportunities the course of the academic year.
The first are the CODA December Honor Orchestras. In December, CODA will facilitate both a Symphony Orchestra and a String Orchestra. The second are the All-State Orchestras, which also will feature both a Symphony Orchestra and String Orchestra.
All of these groups will be directed by wonderful directors and will be incredible groups. Beware of application and audition deadlines! All information for these CODA associated groups is now available on the CODA website (the information is also posted on our own Honor Ensembles page).
I would love to see a few students apply as I will be in San Jose managing the groups over the honor weekend! I would love to have some company up in the Bay Area!
NOTE: The Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association also sponsors an Honor Orchestra. The material for this group is the exact same as the CODA All-State material.

Our Friends at Garfield High School | Seattle, WA
The fine folks of the Garfield Orchestra have stayed busy. Recently, they performed at Seattle Mariner Robinson Cano's Canoche fundraiser, helping raise over $1.1 million for the RC22 Foundation. Currently, the foundation is raising funds to build a DREAM school in the Dominican Republic.
Here is a thank you to Mr. Tsutakawa and the Garfield Orchestra, courtesy of Robinson Cano's website. The video of the Garfield Orchestra has been embedded below.
Thanks to recent alumn Jack for the link!
