A Look Back at an Incredibly Busy Week
I would like to take a minute to congratulate our students on their fine performances last week. From a well attended Area Concert on Wednesday to a very successful Spring Orchestra Concert on Thursday, everyone really stepped up to make the week's events memorable.
Our Area Concert featured over 400 string players from our Mira Mesa schools. To my knowledge this is/was the largest area string concert in all of San Diego Unified. I cannot help but be excited, having seen the tremendous teaching and playing that is taking place at all of our local elementary and middle schools.
Of course, immediately following Wednesday's performance was our annual Spring Orchestra Concert on Thursday night. Reflecting back on Thursday evening's performance, I could not be happier for our students. Our musicians performed an incredible array of musical selections, and presented their work in a wide variety of formats. From full orchestra works, to solos, quartets, string orchestra, and combined orchestra selections, our 160+ students presented a diverse program that challenged them musically and demonstrated what Mira Mesa, at its best, is capable of producing. While in any performance there are always areas for growth, I am absolutely thrilled with the manner in which our students challenged themselves, and in the quality of the work they were able to display.
Lastly, I just want to express my thanks to everyone who assisted/supported us last week. We had tremendous support from parents, families, and friends all week, and for that I am very grateful.
I hope that you enjoyed the performances over the past week as much as both our students (and myself) appreciate you taking the time to spend an evening or two with us. Thank you.
NOTE: The program from last week has been provided below (in color).
