Andrea Casarrubios 'Play-In'
Invitation from Sameer Patel
La Jolla Symphony, Conductor
San Diego Youth Symphony, Conductor and Artistic Director
I'm very excited to share an opportunity for your students with an upcoming guest artist at the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus, in partnership with the San Diego Youth Symphony.
Andrea Casarrubios is a brilliant cellist and composer, and as part of the orchestra's programming this season I've invited her to play Osvaldo Golijov's masterpiece, Azul, with the La Jolla Symphony. Additionally, her work Anthem was performed by my students this past fall at SDYS and recently by Matthew Mulvaney and the SDUSD High School Honor Orchestra this past winter.
In our hopes of bringing more of our musical community together, I'd like to invite you and your students to any of these upcoming opportunities, most notably the play-in on May 5 for those students who've played Anthem, where they will have a chance to meet the composer, play Anthem alongside SDYS students, and have a clinic on the piece with the composer present. This clinic will be conducted by Sameer Patel, Artistic Director of SDYS, and Matthew Mulvaney, Director of Orchestras at Mira Mesa High School.
Immediately following the clinic, there will be time for questions with Andrea Casarrubios and a cello choir masterclass of her work The Airport Jog.
In appreciation,
Sameer Patel
