Quartet Nouveau | Saturday Evening Concert
If you're catching Millie some other night, head on over to Pacific Beach on Saturday, February 7th to catch a fantastic string quartet concert, featuring the talented musicians of Quartet Nouveau.
Quartet Nouveau, in addition to being a fine string ensemble, is also the professional home to a number of our Mira Mesa High School string coaches. Ms. Batya McAdam-Somer (Violin) and Ms. Annabelle Terbetski (Viola) join us weekly in coaching sessions with our Concert Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra students.
The concert is at 7:30 PM at Christ Lutheran Church in Pacific Beach (4761 Cass Street, San Diego) and admission is free. You can 'check in' to let them know you will be attending by RSVP-ing through the Facebook Event.
The program will feature Felix Mendelssohn's String Quartet No. 2 and Josef Haydn's String Quartet Op. 64, No. 5, "Lark". So, if you have not yet had the chance to take in a live stirng quartet performance, head on down to Pacific Beach and join these talented musicians for a night of great chamber music. They would be thrilled to see some Mira Mesa folks at the concert!

Rotterdam Philharmonic
As part of our ongoing partnership with the La Jolla Music Society we have secured 25 tickets to the upcoming Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra concert. The concert is on Friday, February 13th, and begins at 8:00 PM. As is customary, we will be meeting in the orchestra room to discuss the evening's concert and will then carpool down to Symphony Hall.
The orchestra will be led by musical director Yannick Nézet-Séguin (his website is here). Of note, in addition to leading the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin is also the Music Director of the Philadelphia Orchestra. The program for the evening includes Maurice Ravel's Ma Mère I'Oye (Mother Goose Suite), the Piano Concerto in G Major (also by Ravel), and Sergei Prokofiev's Symphony No. 5 in B-flat Major, Opus 100.
You can read about the orchestra and their selections for the evening here.
Oh, and you may recognize Maestro Séguin as his picture recently appeared in a hard hitting article by Classical FM, 16 Steps to Being an Absolutely Epic Conductor (hint: see #5). Enjoy!

San Diego Civic Youth Orchestra
Lastly, the fine folks at the Civic Youth Orchestra, including their Board of Directors, have approved the following:
"... any Mira Mesa string student, pending approval by Mr. Mulvaney, may join CYO on a scholarship".
This is obviously an incredible offer from CYO and speaks volumes about our string program here at Mira Mesa. Interested students should see Mr. Mulvaney.
