SDUSD Honor Orchestra (2018)
San Diego Unified School District Honor Orchestra Musicians
Please feel free to use the following Spotify Playlist and YouTube videos (Telemann, Marquez, and Tchaikovsky) as you prepare for the upcoming honor concert performance.
Thank you for your continued work!
Congratulations to all of our Mira Mesa High School Orchestras and Mira Mesa High School Band & Color Guard musicians who performed in yesterday's festival! With six participating ensembles (both band and orchestra), you helped create a day full of shared music-making. Thank you for all of your hard work, and again, congratulations on your performances.
In addition, our outstanding Mira Mesa Color Guard was active yesterday as well, wrapping up their indoor season with performances at the West Coast Winter Guard Championships. Congratulations to all of our guard members on a fine season!
As for today, enjoy the day off everyone - you have more than earned it!
Please remember, an audition is only required for our Symphony Orchestra (students new to the ensemble).
Our Concert Orchestra remains a non-auditioned ensemble. However, we are looking to track our musicians more closely in 2018-19. Assessments regarding these placements will be made by the appropriate music faculty and affiliated string coaches.
Auditions will take place in late April and early May at Mira Mesa High School, Wangenheim Middle School, and Challenger Middle School.
March is Music in Our Schools Month (MIOSM) through the National Association for Music Education. As such, we have designed a few activities for our Mira Mesa musicians over the upcoming break.
We are partnering with the San Diego State University School of Music and Dance and their Director of Orchestras, Professor Michael Gerdes, in order to provide orchestral clinics to our students over the upcoming break.
On Monday, March 26th, our Concert Orchestra will receive a clinic from 1:00 - 3:00 PM. Following a brief break, our Symphony Orchestra will receive a clinic from 4:00 - 6:00 PM.
In addition to the orchestral clinics on March 26th, we are offering our students the opportunity to participate in an optional trip to Anaheim on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Musco Center for the Arts | March 3, 2018
Thank you and congratulations to all the students who made yesterday's Symphony Orchestra performance at the Musco Center for the Arts possible!
What a great opportunity for our musicians - the opportunity to perform in a beautiful hall, receive feedback from high-quality adjudicators, and enjoy the performance of another wonderful high school orchestra.
Putting together an opportunity such as this requires collaboration and coordination from any number of individuals and organizations. So, thank you to the Philharmonic Society of Orange County for hosting this event in collaboration with the Chapman University College of Performing Arts, to our adjudicators Mr. Jeung and Professor Wachs, to our school administration for supporting our participation, to our chaperones for volunteering to assist as necessary, and of course, to all of the families and friends who made the trip up to support our musicians!
Again, thank you to all who help make quality music education experiences possible for our musicians.
Thank you and congratulations, Marauders!
Many thanks to all the students and families who are making our trip to the Musco Center for the Arts possible.
